Wreck-It Ralph Video Review
Wreck-It Ralph Review
What a fantastic movie! This movie is great for all ages as it taps into video games old and new. I’ll have to watch this movie a few more times but it sure was fun seeing familiar characters from other games that I played as a kid growing up. This ended up being an unlikely way to unite a wider audience and it worked beautifully.
“It’s hard to love your job, when no one else seems to like you for doing it…”
“They invited Pac Man? That cherry-chasing dot-muncher?”
“My name’s Ralph, and I’m a Bad Guy. I’m 9 feet tall. I weigh 643 pounds. Got a little bit of a temper on me.”
One of the most appreciated aspects of this movie is the great story telling by Disney. They can tell stories well and Wreck-It Ralph was good one. The story consisted of many different pieces that were interwoven very well. With story telling timing is everything and many details were revealed at the right time allowing for drama, twists, and turns that keep your eyes glued to the screen.
The 3D animation was great and enhanced action scenes in the movie very nicely. There was also great use of older graphics from back in the day when arcade games were really popular. Integrating 8-bit animation and 3D animation back an forth was smooth and helped tell the story better.
The voice talent in Wreck-It Ralph was great but not distracting.
Sometimes recognizing every voice in the movie can be a distraction but it wasn’t in this case even though there are some outstanding actors/actresses. It is also fun to see how closely the resemblances are between the voice talent and their characters. Most of them look pretty similar.
Wreck-It Ralph is a great movie for all ages and will likely be one of the best movies of 2012 and not just in the animation category. Be sure to get your copy when it comes out on Blu-Ray. I’m sure all of the special features will be awesome!
